Pakistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Tuesday signed a $200 million loan agreement for the Power Distribution Strengthening Project. The agreement was signed by Economic Affairs Division Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz and ADB Deputy Country Director Asad Aleem.

The project will initially support three power distribution companies – Lahore Electric Supply Company, Multan Electric Power Company and Sukkur Electric Power Company – through advanced metering infrastructure, data management systems, and the asset performance management system.

On the occasion, Economic Affairs Division Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz emphasised the timely and efficient utilisation of the ADB loan and urged all concerned, in particular the distribution companies, to ensure completion of the project within the stipulated timeframe.

The secretary expressed appreciation for the ADB’s role as a reliable development partner, and its continued support for Pakistan’s critical power sector. He said the project was designed to upgrade and modernise power distribution systems with a focus on minimising substantial energy losses during distribution.
