Ricky Starks made an unannounced appearance on WWE NXT just a day after his release from AEW, addressing fans from the crowd at the WWE Performance Center.
As the ring crew prepared the steel cage for the main event, Starks took the microphone and delivered a brief promo without entrance music, drawing cheers from the audience.
Starks, formerly with AEW, entered the crowd area of NXT, prompting chants from fans as a spotlight illuminated him. WWE commentator Vic Joseph reacted with surprise as Starks addressed the crowd.
“If NXT is the future of professional wrestling, well guess what, you need an absolute superstar of the future,” Starks said.
“If this is the hottest brand, well you need the hottest free agent right now, baby. Everyone’s been asking when the revolution will be televised again. Well, I’m right here, aren’t I?”
Starks was removed from AEW’s roster page on Monday, and reports indicated that he had no non-compete clause, making him free to sign with any promotion immediately.
His contract with AEW, originally set to expire this spring, was extended for an option year but saw limited use on television.
While NXT’s Vengeance Day premium live event is set for Saturday, Starks did not confirm whether he would be involved in the event.
His unexpected appearance adds to speculation regarding his next move in professional wrestling.
