Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious events in the world, was organised in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, in January and February 2025. This grand 45-day event concluded on Wednesday, February 26, and set a new record with its scale.
Around 66 crore devotees took a dip in the holy Triveni Sangam—more than the total population of the United States. The event attracted not only Indian devotees but also visitors from around the world.
With Maha Kumbh 2025 now over, many people are wondering when and where the next Kumbh Mela will be held. Bhopal-based astrologer and Vastu consultant Pandit Hitendra Kumar Sharma shares the details about the next Maha Kumbh.
Nashik Kumbh Mela
Kumbh Mela is a significant part of Indian culture, held in four major locations: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain. The next Kumbh Mela will take place in Nashik, Maharashtra, in 2027, from July 17 to August 17.
It will be held near Trimbakeshwar, located on the banks of the Godavari River. The site is home to the sacred Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India.
A key highlight of the Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 will be the use of modern technology. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that state-of-the-art technologies would be implemented in the fair.
The goal is to provide a virtual holy bathing experience for devotees who are physically unable to take a dip in the river. This technological initiative aims to make the pilgrimage more accessible and convenient for all.
Why Is Kumbh Mela Held Every Three Years?
Kumbh Mela is a special religious event that takes place every three years in rotation across four cities: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain.
A Kumbh Mela is held in each city every 12 years, while an Ardh Kumbh Mela occurs every six years, and a Purna Kumbh Mela every 12 years. The recently concluded Maha Kumbh Mela is a unique event that happens once every 144 years, making it a particularly significant occasion.
