Speaking on her YouTube show, Bollywood film director Farah Khan told Indian actor Rubina Dilaik that she uses tough love to parent her triplets. “I am a strict mom; they just can’t go wherever they want without me tracking them. Every evening, we have a gossip chat. I say gossip so that I get to know what is going on in their lives. Even though I am strict, that way, I am a cool and fun mom,” Farah said.
The Om Shanti Om director was blessed with son Czar and daughters Anya and Diva in February 2008. “My three kids will go to college next year; they have turned seventeen. Luckily, they are not overgrown. Recently, they celebrated their birthday, and they wanted to have a family dinner with us rather than go to a club and party,” she said.
Farah prefers that her children invest their time in productive pursuits. “My daughters have never been to a club, and till now, they don’t use makeup, nor have they gotten their eyebrows or anything done; they are only engrossed in studies,” she said.
Although uncompromising over the upbringing of all her kids, the 60-year-old director is particularly strict with her son. “Their upbringing is the same; I am a little more strict with my son, though. Especially now, I have to explain to him how to speak to girls, how he cannot say things, and also how his friends cannot talk about his sisters in a certain way. And if they talk about any girls, he is not to be included.”
Despite her firm methods, Farah considers herself lucky to be blessed with the three. “When I was expecting, I always prayed for two boys and one girl. Luckily, God didn’t listen to me and gave me two girls. They are the best,” she said.
Farah and filmmaker-husband Shirish Kunder celebrated their kids’ birthday in a homely event last month. Sharing chronologically assembled photos of the three on Instagram, their mother wished them a happy birthday and promised that their late grandmother was looking over them, no matter where she might be.
Unapologetic about posting the triplets’ childhood photos, Farah added, “I know you’ll be embarrassed by this reel, but as an Indian mom, it’s my sworn duty to embarrass my kids. That’s how we show our love.”
