Pre-treat stains with liquid detergent before washing to restore your colour-stained clothes on Holi.
After a hearty Holi session with your family and friends with colours everywhere, the biggest dilemma of removing colours from your clothes comes to the forefront. Rather than discarding the colour-stained clothes, you can give them some attention and care and remove the colour stains. You can restore your clothes by following these five easy hacks. These hacks are simple, and they do not include harsh scrubbing, which not only leaves your hands tired but also thins out your clothes.
Here are five easy hacks that will help you remove Holi colour stains from your clothes and leave your clothes looking fresh and vibrant.
Pre-Treat with Detergent
Before washing, apply a liquid detergent directly to the stain and gently rub it in. Let it sit for about 15–20 minutes to break down the colour, then wash the clothes as usual with warm water. This works best for fresh stains.
Soak in Baking Soda Solution
Mix a solution of warm water and baking soda (about 1/4 cup of baking soda for every gallon of water). Soak the stained clothes in this solution for an hour. Baking soda helps to lift the colour and deodorize the fabric.
Vinegar and Water Solution
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water, and soak the stained fabric in it for about 30 minutes. Vinegar works well to break down the pigment of Holi colours, especially those made with natural dyes.
Use Dish Soap and Hydrogen Peroxide
Mix a small amount of dish soap with hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) in a bowl. Apply this mixture directly to the stain, gently scrub with a soft brush, and then wash the clothes. This is especially effective for tough or older stains.
Rinse Immediately with Cold Water
The quicker you act, the easier it is to remove Holi stains. As soon as possible, rinse the stained area with cold water. Gently blot or rub the fabric together to remove excess colour before it sets.
These hacks will help you enjoy Holi 2025 without worrying about your clothes.
