British actor Benedict Cumberbatch set the record straight on his character, Doctor Strange’s involvement in the next Avengers film.
The Sherlock star, who previously told Variety that his character would not appear in Avengers: Doomsday, changed his statement at Sundance Film Festival.
“I got that wrong, I am in the next one,” Cumberbatch clarified to Business Insider when asked if he received any “sternly-worded emails” from the infamous secretive Marvel team.
It is pertinent to note that Marvel stars often mislead the public about their roles. Noting to this fact it is highly doubtful that whether the actor, who had played a significant role in Infinity War and Endgame, is telling the truth.
In addition, he made the fans skeptical as The Imitation Game actor remained evasive and said with a smirk: “Don’t ever believe anything I say.”
During the festival he also teased his role in Avengers: Secret Wars which is set to come after Doomsday, revealing that, “He [Doctor Strange] is quite central to where things might go.”
In last year’s Comic-Con, Marvel surprised its fans with the announcement that Robert Downy Jr would return to MCU not as Iron Man, but as Doctor Doom for Doomsday. Per People Magazine the original star Jonathan Major’s was dropped from the franchise due to legal troubles.
The Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on May 1, 2026, while, Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on May 7, 2027.
