Prince Harry, while he was still the patron of the Sentebale charity, caused a major setback for the foundation due to a blunder.
The Duke of Sussex, who founded the charity in 2006 with Prince Seeiso, has actively taken part in raising funds for the entity. However, in shock news, Harry quit his beloved charity earlier this week due to contention with Sentebale’s chair, Dr Sophie Chandauka.
The royal is an avid polo player but he ruined a big opportunity to do a charity Polo Challenge in Miami.
Dr Chandauka, sat down for an explosive interview with Sky News’ Trevor Phillips, in which she shared how Harry’s ties with Netflix caused them a huge problem.
“About a month before the event was about to take place, Prince Harry called the team and said, ‘I’m doing a Netflix show, and I would love to bring a camera crew so that I can include some footage in this show,’” she said, referring to Harry’s Polo docuseries.
“And so the team called me and told me, ‘Oh, Prince Harry’s made this request, so we’re doing the things,’” she continued.
“I said, you can’t be doing the things without seeking consent from the property owners, the sponsors, all the guests. Nobody signed up to being on a Netflix show.”
Dr Chandauka explained that they had drafted the agreement with the venue owner, but when they found out about Netflix, they said that it was now a “commercial undertaking”. They ended up losing the venue because they could no longer afford it.
However, the charity managed to get another venue via Harry’s connections. However, the problems did not end as Meghan Markle made an unexpected visit which led to some mismanagement.
“We’re excited about it. We would have been really excited had we known ahead of time, but we didn’t,” Dr Chandauka said, noting that the “choreography went badly on stage” as it was too crowded.
The moment was captured by international media which proved to be bad PR and shifted attention to the slip-ups rather than put focus on the charity.
