Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis vs. Lamont Roach Jr. live updates, results and analysis

Gervonta “Tank” Davis defends his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach Jr. on Saturday night in the main event of a boxing card at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York (Prime Video PPV, 8 p.m. ET).

Davis (30-0, 28 KOs), a three-division titlist, is coming off an eighth-round KO of Frank Martin in June. He has nine KOs in his past 10 fights, including a seventh-round KO win over Ryan Garcia in 2023. Davis won the WBA “regular” lightweight title by stopping Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2019 and made four successful defenses before he was elevated to WBA “super” champion in January 2024.

“Roach is in for a rude awakening, for sure,” Davis said during a media workout Wednesday. “He’s trying to psyche himself up, but it comes down to skill. Whoever is the most skilled fighter will be the winner.

“I’m sharp, fast and explosive. Lamont is sharp too. It’s going to be a banger.”

Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) has won six consecutive fights since a unanimous decision loss to Jamel Herring challenging for the WBC junior lightweight title in 2019 — his only title fight. He stopped Feargal McCrory in Round 8 in his most recent bout in June.

“The stakes are higher, but I just want to go hard, that’s about it,” Roach said. “I’ve trained to be in the best physical and mental shape I can possibly be in.

“This is everything for me, and becoming a two-division champion would be a dream come true for me.”
