Pakistani fashion designer and actor Deepak Perwani has sparked a heated debate following comments he made about the differences between life in India and Pakistan.

In a recent interview, Deepak Perwani shared his perspective on the living conditions and infrastructure of both countries, offering a detailed comparison based on his own experiences.

Deepak Perwani, who is known for his work in fashion and entertainment, reflected on a recent visit to India, noting that the country offers a higher standard of living, especially for women.

According to him, Indian women enjoy more freedom than their counterparts in Pakistan, with the ability to walk freely on the streets, ride bicycles, and even drive motorbikes. In contrast, Deepak Perwani observed that such freedoms are less common in Pakistan, particularly in urban areas.

The designer also highlighted the contrasting infrastructure between the two nations. “In India, even rickshaw drivers have Uber, and street vendors accept tap-to-pay,” he remarked.

He pointed out that India’s cities are more pedestrian-friendly, with well-maintained pavements and footpaths, which he described as a stark contrast to the roads in Karachi, which he argued are less accommodating for pedestrians.

Deepak Perwani’s comments have divided public opinion in Pakistan. While some praised his honest observations, others accused him of being unpatriotic and urged him to move to India if he preferred it so much.

On social media, one user wrote, “He needs to move to India and spare us!” while another commented, “Running away isn’t the solution. Go to India; you won’t get the respect you’re getting here.”

However, there were others who supported Deepak Perwani’s views, with one Instagram user noting, “Criticism often comes from those who haven’t experienced the freedoms he described.”

In his interview, Deepak Perwani also noted that India’s modern conveniences and more dynamic urban environment made a lasting impression on him. He concluded by stating that Pakistan still has a long way to go in terms of infrastructure and quality of life, emphasising the need for improvement.
