Jennifer Lopez turned heads in a sheer, bedazzled Valdrin Sahiti gown adorned with intricate Hassanzadeh jewelry shaped like a spider web
Jennifer Lopez made a show-stopping entrance at the Kiss of the Spider Woman premiere during the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on Sunday. The 55-year-old star turned heads in a sheer, bedazzled Valdrin Sahiti gown adorned with intricate Hassanzadeh jewelry shaped like a spider web.
The figure-hugging black lace gown, with its long sleeves and delicate embellishments, highlighted Lopez’s famous curves. She completed the look with black platform heels, adding a touch of height and drama. A black clutch provided the perfect finishing touch to her glamorous ensemble.
Opting for classic Hollywood elegance, Lopez styled her caramel-hued locks into a voluminous updo and kept her makeup timeless with bold eyes, fluttery lashes, and a soft nude lip. Before hitting the red carpet, she took to Instagram to showcase her look, pairing it with a luxurious white fur coat.
Love Don’t Cost a Thing, but producing movies certainly does—Lopez, who co-produced Kiss of the Spider Woman, shares credit with her ex-husband Ben Affleck, 52, alongside Matt Damon and Diego Luna, who also stars in the film. Despite their recent divorce settlement, the former couple remains professional collaborators on the much-anticipated musical.
Directed and written by Bill Condon, the film is an adaptation of the beloved stage musical, which itself is based on the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig. The official Sundance synopsis describes the movie as “a textually rich historical and political drama infused with the glitz and glamour of an old Hollywood musical.”
Lopez, who portrays the enigmatic character Aurora, has already earned praise for her performance, with critics calling it a career-defining role. The festival’s buzz highlights her show-stopping musical numbers, which showcase both her powerhouse vocals and signature dance moves.
During a panel discussion at the Los Angeles Times studio earlier in the day, Lopez opened up about the rigorous preparation that went into bringing her character to life. “I would have loved a full year to prepare, but being an independent film, we had to make it work with a tight schedule,” she revealed. “It was a challenge, but we pulled it off.”
Her co-star Tonatiuh gushed about working with Lopez, calling her a “force of nature.” “Even when I wasn’t in a scene, I’d come to set just to watch her perform. It was truly inspiring,” he said, recalling the film’s intense schedule, which often involved filming an entire musical number in a single day.
The legacy of Kiss of the Spider Woman looms large, with the late Chita Rivera—who passed away earlier this year at 91—originating the role of Aurora in the 1992 Toronto production before taking it to Broadway. The character was also memorably portrayed by Sônia Braga in the acclaimed 1985 film adaptation.
Lopez previously shared the screen with Braga in the 2007 thriller Bordertown, though their collaboration at the time didn’t fare well at the box office. However, Lopez’s latest endeavor seems poised to capture both critical and commercial success.
Production on the 128-minute film, which includes visually striking strobe effects, wrapped in June 2024. The star-studded cast also features Bruno Bichir, Josefina Scaglione, and Aline Mayagoitia.
Reflecting on the experience, Lopez recently told Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, “This role has been one of the most challenging and rewarding of my career.”
While the film has yet to secure a distributor or release date, the Sundance buzz suggests that Lopez’s latest project is set to make waves in the industry.
