Amrita Arora and her husband, Shakeel Ladak, have started an exciting new journey by opening their restaurant in Goa. Perched on the cliff-top spot above Anjuna Beach, the couple has opened a luxury diner named Jolene by the Sea. Amrita and Shakeel’s upscale restaurant is inspired by their travel experiences, which offer a breathtaking sea view and a thoughtfully crafted menu inspired by vibrant cuisines across the world. This new venture also marks the former actress’ entry into the food and hospitality industry, just like her sister Malaika Arora.
Designed by Ayush Malik, Amrita’s new restaurant features an interior that is a bend of sophistication with bohemian aesthetics. Jolene by the Sea includes floor-to-ceiling windows that let in the sunlight and an impressive sea-facing outdoor seating area with cosy gazebos. The luxury dining destination is also adorned with massive chandeliers, high ceilings, mixed wooden furniture and sand-coloured curtains, creating a warm yet elegant ambience. The addition of lush palm trees further enhances the tropical theme of Amrita’s restaurant.
Amrita and Shakeel co-founded their restaurant with veteran restaurateurs Gaurav Batra and Ankit Tayal, whereas the celebrated Chef Suvir Saran has curated the menu.
In an interview with Vogue, Amrita shared her vision for the restaurant and also talked about why she named it Jolene. She revealed that Jolene by the Sea was conceptualised during the COVID-19 pandemic. Talking about the unique name of their restaurant, Amrita shared that it’s a nod to the iconic Dolly Parton. She said, “It’s one of my favourite songs, and it’s an ode to strong women who are also vulnerable.”
Amrita added, “I was copying the raw menu from the phone to a sheet of paper. We had a playlist on in the background and Shakil asked me to give the restaurant a name. As soon as he asked, ‘Jolene’ began to play.”
Meanwhile, Amrita also shared a post on her Instagram account announcing the opening of her new restaurant. In the picture, she could be seen posing with her husband inside Jolene by the Sea. The photo beautifully captured the beauty of the serene coastal haven. In the caption, Amrita wrote, “Finally our Labour of Love comes to Life! Say hello to JOLENE by the Sea – a serene haven in Anjuna, Goa, blending the best of Marbella’s beach clubs and Saint Tropez chic vibes.”
