The Museum of Modern Art’s next director will be Christophe Cherix, who was appointed chief curator of drawings and prints at the New York museum in 2013. He takes over after the three-decade tenure of Glenn Lowry.
Cherix’s appointment was announced to the museum’s staff on Friday in a letter written by the museum’s chair, Marie-Josée Kravis, and its president, Sarah Arison.
“Christophe’s brilliant curatorial leadership in modern and contemporary art, strong relationships with artists, excellence in scholarship, internationally respected research and publications, and reputation for steady stewardship stood out as indispensable qualities to position the museum to meet the moment,” they wrote. “He rose to the top of an impressive pool of global candidates.”
This is a developing story.
