Bollywood actor Sanya Malhotra’s latest release, Mrs, has made a significant impact on streaming platforms, breaking records. The film achieved the biggest-ever opening on ZEE5 and became the most searched film on Google, further solidifying its success.

Directed by Arati Kadav, Mrs is the official Bollywood remake of the Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen. The movie centres on Richa, a trained dancer who, after marriage, finds herself constrained by household chores and struggles to carve her own path. The film has been widely praised for its emotional depth and portrayal of the societal pressures women face in marriage.

Since its release on ZEE5 earlier this week, Mrs has sparked conversations around the challenges women face in traditional marital roles. The film’s strong narrative and Sanya Malhotra’s stellar performance have made it a talking point, not only among fans but also within the film industry.

On Tuesday, ZEE5 took to Instagram to celebrate the film’s success, announcing that Mrs had achieved the platform’s largest opening. The platform also shared that the film had become the most searched film on Google, a feat that demonstrates its growing popularity.

Fans have been vocal about their admiration for the movie, with many commenting on Sanya Malhotra’s performance. One user described her acting as “fab,” while another expressed their excitement, stating, “Great, very well deserved.”

Mrs was premiered at multiple film festivals, including the 2023 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, and was selected as the closing film at the 2024 New York Indian Film Festival. Malhotra’s portrayal earned her the Best Actress award at the festival, further contributing to the film’s accolades.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Kadav explained the inspiration behind Mrs, stating, “I felt that this story needs to be set in North India and reach a larger audience. This film is so relevant for North India. I wanted my mother to see The Great Indian Kitchen, but she only watched for 15-20 minutes. I made this film for her.”
