Super Bowl LIX, Plus 9 Things to Watch on TV This Week


Between streaming and cable, there is a seemingly endless variety of things to watch. Here is a selection of TV shows and specials that air or stream this week, Feb. 3-9. Details and times are subject to change.

It’s time for the annual Taylor Swift-bowl — oh, sorry, I mean Super Bowl. For the second year in a row, Swift will be rooting on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, who are facing off against the Philadelphia Eagles at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Sunday at 6:30 p.m. on Fox.

Before the biggest football game of the year, there is a much fiercer competition happening between team ruff and team fluff in their pursuit of the Lombarky trophy at Puppy Bowl XXI. Featuring over 100 puppies from shelters all around the country, it’s an opportunity to see cuteness on the small screen and support their adoptions. Sunday at 2 p.m. on TBS and streaming on Max.

However you spend game day, get ready earlier in the week by recalling some of the best advertisements of the past, with “Super Bowl Greatest Commercials.” Wednesday at 9 p.m. on CBS.

Everybody’s favorite hunky captain is back for a new season of “Below Deck Down Under,” the show that follows the crew of a charter yacht. Sailing around the Seychelles off the coast of Africa, Captain Jason Chambers leads a crew of familiar faces and some new ones — for the first time on the franchise, there is sous chef, which feels long overdue. But who is going to put in Captain Chambers’ contact lens now that his chief stewardess Aesha Scott has moved on to the original “Below Deck”? Monday at 8 p.m. on Bravo.

And now for the people who can afford to charter this type of boat: The sixth season of the “The Kardashians” returns this week, following story lines from the family including Khloe and Kim’s trip to India, Kourtney’s business ventures and North West’s Hollywood Bowl debut. Say what you will about the Kardashians, but at least they’re dependable: They’ve been airing high jinks, heartbreaks and fights for 18 years now. Streaming Thursday on Hulu.

Any rivalry two American football teams might have barely holds a candle to the intensity of the cricket matches played between Pakistan and India. The documentary series “The Greatest Rivalry: India vs. Pakistan” reflects on the history and conflict between the countries that are unleashed through the sport. Streaming on Friday on Netflix.

In this new romantic comedy series, “Love You To Death,” childhood friends Raúl (Joan Amargós) and Marta (Verónica Echegui) reconnect when they are both in an interesting place in their lives. He has heart cancer, and she is newly pregnant. Together, they try to work through their individual issues in an attempt to find love. In Spanish, with English subtitles. Streaming on Wednesday on AppleTV+.

The book “The Woman Who Fooled the World” by Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano details the true story of Belle Gibson, an Australian wellness influencer who convinced her followers that she cured her terminal brain cancer through diet, exercise and alternative medicine — it was all a lie, and an Australian consumer affairs bureau has brought legal action against her. The new Netflix series “Apple Cider Vinegar” is a fictionalized version of that same story, starring Kaitlyn Dever as Gibson and Alycia Debnam-Carey as Milla Blake, her friend who also does wellness influencing. Streaming on Netflix on Thursday.

Though it will take years for Los Angeles to recover from the deadly wildfires that blazed last month, Hollywood is moving forward with its regularly scheduled awards pomp and circumstance with the Critic’s Choice Awards. The show, which was originally set for early January, will take place in Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar. Though “Emilia Pérez” received the most Oscar nominations, “Wicked” and “Conclave” are up for the most awards at this ceremony. Chelsea Handler is set to host. Friday at 7 p.m. on E!
